So I am going to start Colistin and they are sending it with the TRIO, AKA E-FLow and since I am gonna use it with the Colistin I am also going to use it with Albuterol, Hypertonic Saline and Pulmozyme.
What do you all use it for and do you like it? What are treatment times? Do you notice the above medicines working better cause of the TRIO (AKA eflow)? Did you have a hard time getting use to albuterol with it? Pharmacist mentioned albuterol could make me jittery until my body gets use to the med since it is getting into lungs better. I do not remember that feeling cause I have been on Albuterol FOREVER. Thanks Jennifer 37 with CF and CFRD |

Answer to those questions can be found on my blog (sorry I'm lazy to re-type).

My boy just started using Trio. Pulmicort was the only med where I found advice against using the Trio; albuterol, hypersal, pulmozyme, colistin, and formulated tobra all got an OK. However, my boy does not like it for the hypersal because he says it is too much harsher than the regular nebulizer so he's not using it for that one. Hard to say if he is more jittery from albuterol since he is just 6 years old and is also taking prednisone every other day right now so is pretty out there anyway.
Also, the cleaning/care advice out there is inconsistent so I came up with my own by combining what I found on all the trio provider sites and on this one: 1. The problem part is the metal head - it can clog from residue of medicines or hard water: use distilled water to rinse after each use then into alcohol to store until next use for a single day - be sure to let it air dry before you use it. At the end of each day, wash it with clear soap in plain water, rinse in distilled, and sterilize it via overnight storage in alcohol. 5 minutes in 70% alcohol is a CFF approved disinfection treatment so no need to boil 2. The other parts are no different than any other neb cup: clean and sterilize them just like you would a Pari LC and don't worry about it; they are made of exactly the same materials and are not the thing that will get clogged and muck up the works Edited: 12/09/2009 at 02:57 PM by folione |

I am looking forward to trying it out. Not sure if I am ready to take the plunge on a reformulated TOBI cause I do so well on TOBI but we shall see. I hope I can tolerate all meds with the TRIO cause it sounds like it is going to free up a TON of my time.
Thanks! Any other advice or tips would be great. Foundation care did say if I am having trouble in between meds I can rinse with the alcohol and then go to next med cause alcohol dries super quick. Jennifer 37 with CF and CFRD |
