Well, I was walking a mile nearly every day and beginning to run as well, when I broke my toe. I had a run in with the vacuum cleaner. Anyway, any suggestions for keeping up with exercise, without worsening my toe?

Also, I am looking to begin strength training. Can anyway give me some pointers on what types of weights, exercises I should do? Are there particular ones that are suggested for people with CF? I have never done weights, so I'm completely a beginner. Thanks in advance!

Pilates? It will give you both endurance and weight training. It's alot harder than it looks!! And I empathize with your broken toe- I rebroke my little one not long ago. But I swim, so it's not too much of an issue . Can't help with the weight training with weights though, sorry! Good luck!

I was going to suggest swimming as well...not only is it low impact and won't hurt your toe (just don't push off the wall w/ that foot), but you can also work on breath control and strenghten your lungs.

You might also try the elliptical, I don't know if it would bother your toe or not?

As far as weights go, you might be able to get 1 or 2 sessions with a personal trainer. They will be able to show you how to do everything, what weights to start with, how to increase them over time, etc. I don't know of any specific weights that are specific to CF, but strength training is good for everyone and can really strenthen your bones as well. I had a personal trainer years ago when I was swimming competitively, but can't afford one now, lol. Most gyms will offer you 1 or 2 sessions free with membership, so maybe that's an option if you haven't used it already?

good luck!

Right. If you have access to the gym you could do the eliptical machine or maybe the rower. You know the ones with the huge fans. Or you might use the time while you heal up to work out with dumbells to tone up, as well seem to need to do. *8)

eliptical, swimming, rower, all good options.

weight training... i use normal weights... ahah what normal people use i guess, nothing special.

a lot of new training is involving kettle bells. look into that maybe?
