I don't know about the line itself, but I would question the safety of the rays while on some heavy antibiotics.

The PICC line would be fine. The bigger concerns would be the sensitivity caused by some abx; and more importantly the fact that tanning beds are proven to cause skin cancer

Hi, I tanned my whole life (picc line or not). I was in the natural sun and the only problem I had was the sweating. It would def irritate my dressing. I am a rebel and change it myself most of the time....but I would never advocate that. I def agree with everyone else that you may end up burned becuase of the antibiotics. If your going to do it wear SPF and dont forget the eye goggles.

You're doc doesn't agree with tanning beds for a very good reason and you should take heed.

I'm sure CF and cancer would be a nasty combo, is it worth it for a temporary tan?

Maybe it is something that makes her feel good about herself. Just trying to point out how one might see it. I dont tan, and never really liked it, but hopefully carly doesnt do it all the time, but considering all the other side effects of meds that we have to put up with all the time, maybe being a little tan gives her a self esteem boost, sometimes being in the warm bed makes one feel good especially when its cold outside.

Dont have an opinion on the question itself, b/c never even occured to me, though I have tanned in the bad ole sun w/ a picc before, but just trying to give some insight.

I'd never do it, but that's just me. I us to go to tanning beds when I was younger back in 1999. Had to stop doing it, because when I'd urinate, it would burn. Yep, you all are saying I should had been drinking more liquids, right? I was drinking about a gallon of water a day. I'd only tan for maybe 20 minutes 2-3x weekly.

I stopped going and it all went away. Even saw a Urologist, because I thought something was wrong. I think I went tanning for a few months.

Hey Carley,,,

I just have to tell you , that my 17yr old had malignant melanoma. At that time she was going to a tanning bed and not that often. She was not laying out in the sun and had never had a sunburn in her life. This is one of the deadlyest skin cancers, and by the grace of God it was caught at stage3.
It was a small black new growth that popped up on the calf of her leg.

I again agree with Tom. I certainly agree with crazycat. Really , is it worth it. It was bad enough to deal with her cancer , and this is a sneaky cancer so it has to always be checked. What she went through wasn't worth it, I can promise you that.

I can't imagine taking a chance of getting cancer and having CF. Just like CF, you think , oh that could never happen to me (but it did), and I'm sure you think catching cancer from a tanning bed could never happen to you , but it can..........

No sun tan lotion is going to prevent cancer from a tanning bed.
I hope you don't use a tanning bed....
Best of luck, and sending you many blessings,,Karla
