Words can be very emotional. Words can be strong, encouraging, supportive and hurtful. CysticFibrosis.com is a patient driven community. We allow free expression and we moderate. For ten years, we have existed as a model site for our community, users, professionals, and sponsors. We encourage direct interaction. It is human, it is real.
As the administrator/owner of www.CysticFibrosis.com, I have created an atmosphere of hospitality. When topics and ideas are discussed with civility and respect as I see appropriate, the discussions may continue. Sometimes people disagree with my "sense of hospitality". They wouldn't allow certain people to post or would require more stringent guidelines for those who do post. Our forums are one of largest for cystic fibrosis on the Internet. We take great care and pride in our interactive community.
Bill Duenskie, IT Director explains How To Block Unwanted Users
Blocking messages from unwanted users
I know this has been a feature that many of you have requested in the past. Luckily the forums have this functionality built into them, though it's not that obvious on how to set it up. To show you how this feature works, I'm going to log into the forums with my test account and block messages posted by my regular user account "billd". Here are the following steps on how to block a user:
- Log into the forums
- Click on the "my forums" link across the top menu
- Click on the "Add Ignored Users" button
- Type in the "username" of the person you wish to block and click on "Ignore User"
- You can now close the popup box. That's all there is to it, from now on all messages from the user "billd" will not be visible when I log in
* hint - for those of you who don't like anonymous postings you can block the user "anonymous"
How do I unblock someone I've blocked?
- Make sure you're logged into the forums.
- Click on the "my forums" link across the top menu.
- Scroll down to your ignored user list and click on the "delete" button that corresponds to the user you wish to un-block.
