The evening of volunteering kicked off with a social buffet prepared by the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC. We were assigned to our groups and set out for night of meeting and greeting the Booming Celebration's 750 guests. The guests began arriving at 6.30pm for the silent auction which consisted of autographs, sports tickets and events and many other exciting items. We then helped to direct and offered assistance to guests. The Booming Celebration "kicked" into high gear and style with the arrival of Boomer Esiason at 8.30pm. Boomer was fired up with praise, thanks and well wishes. He reflected on the year and the history of the Boomer Esiason Foundation. The Foundation has raised over 55million in research funding for Cystic Fibrosis. Special appearances were made by Gunnar Esiason, and the 2007 Michael Brennan Award Winners, Erin Keitges & Tommy Geromichalos who were all truly, truly inspiring.
Jeanne and Sarah stepped in as Live Auction "Spotters" along with the BEF volunteers as the live bidding began. What fun that was for us. We watched in amazement as bidding jumped from 30 thousand dollars to 250 thousand dollars on one of the 6 large ticket, high end items. It was really a unique and exciting experience for us. We are thankful we could be a part of and witness such a wonderful and important Celebration!
The night proved to be a winning success and the CysticFibrosis.com team of Jeanne, her husband Peter, Sarah K and her husband Taso retired late in the evening, or rather early in the morning as we set our clocks ahead for Day Light Savings. A wonderful time was had by all.
